Pointing to Jesus

The Bible is God's word, and it tells us who God is and what He has done. There are many wonderful truths in it!

In particular, the Bible shows us God's plan from beginning to end β€” and at the centre of it is Jesus Christ.

To help us grasp what the Bible says about Jesus, we will look at seven teachings. These seven teachings are like Seven Stars, pointing to Jesus.

As we follow where they point, we will see more clearly how Jesus is central to every part of our lives.

Star One

Creation

God is the Creator; we are the creatures.

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."Genesis 1:1

God is the One who made everything, and we humans are a part of His creation.

Star Two

Fall

God is the Holy One; we are the sinners.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."Romans 3:23

God our Creator is perfect and good, and should be loved and obeyed. However, we don't want to obey or love God. We want to be ruler ourselves. The Bible calls this sin.

Star Three

Judgement

God is the Judge; we are the judged.

"Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned."Romans 5:12

God is righteous and He will not let sinners keep doing wrong. He will punish everyone who has sinned against Him. According to God's just judgement, the penalty for sin is death. Since all people have sinned, all of us deserve the death penalty from God.

Star Four

Salvation

God is the Saviour; in Christ we are the saved.

"But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."Romans 5:8

God loves us and does not want to see us die in judgement. In order to save us from His own judgement, God sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for people like you and me. By His death, Jesus paid the death penalty that you and I deserve.

Star Five

Resurrection

Christ is risen; those in Christ will be raised with Him.

"But as it is, Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep."1 Corinthians 15:20

God loves Jesus and will not leave Him in the grave. Three days after Jesus died on the cross, God raised Him from the dead. Jesus has conquered the grave! From now on, everyone who trusts in Jesus has the same hope of being raised from the grave.

Star Six

Regeneration

God sent His Spirit; His Spirit lives in us.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The law is not against such things."Galatians 5:22–23

God loves those who trust in Jesus and has given them His very own Spirit as a guarantee of the hope they have in Jesus. It is the Holy Spirit who teaches them the truth about Jesus and helps them to live by the teaching of Jesus.

Star Seven

The Last Things

God's focus on the Last Day is Christ; our hope on the Last Day must also be Christ.

"Though you have not seen him, you love him; though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy."1 Peter 1:8

Christians are filled with joy at the prospect of seeing Jesus face to face. We are called to live a life of obedience to Jesus while we wait for His return. Following Jesus is worth all the trials that come along the way, because He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Seven Stars

All of them point to one Saviour.
